Reddot UK Community Day 2008

Yesterday was the first UK Community day, run by Reddot. The day brought customers together and offered a number of presentations from the UK Reddot team highlighting areas of the systems that people aren’t always familiar with.

The areas covered were :

  • CMS
    • An Introduction to Navigation Manager
    • Multi-channel delivery of content with project variants
    • Multi-lingual projects
    • Extended uses of navigation manager and render tags
  • Liveserver
    • Web statistics with Liveserver
    • Delivering friendly URL’s
    • Consuming web services
    • Reddot web component building the social web
  • General
    • Livelink Integration
    • Web compliance – Investigating Reddot tools and techniques
    • Effectively planning the build of a CMS project
    • Product Roadmap

Despite some of the presentations being far too short, I felt it was a useful day and picked up some ideas on how to speed up our projects a little bit more, these may or may not make it into full articles… we shall see. Next year I just need to pluck up the courage to talk to more people.

The two presentations and the cheat sheet for Navigation Manager were useful additions to the Navigation manager manual. The Language variant talk provided some suggestions for using render tags for translating text in country variants. We’re currently using some asp functions to do this replacement, which is no doubt slowing things down slightly.

For UK customers that didn’t get to attend the day, all the presentations and example projects are up on the UK Community site (http://www.reddotcommunity.co.uk). If you’re not in the UK, I’m sure asking your local Reddot contact will net you the files.
